DCSN
The Dublin City Sports Network (DCSN) was established in 2003 to source funding from the Irish Sports Council under the Local Sports Partnership scheme. Its aim is to promote participation in Sport and Physical Activity throughout Dublin City, by raising awareness of the activities and facilities available in the city and by developing programmes and events to encourage people to participate in sport and physical activity.
The network brings together key stakeholders from across the city such as Dublin City Council, the Health Services Executive, the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee, the Federation of Irish Sports and members of National Governing Bodies of Sport. These stakeholders take a planned and strategic approach to the development of sport and physical activities targeting in particular groups who traditionally have low participation rates in sport and physical activity such as young women.
Dublin City Sports Network is using sport and recreation as an effective tool to encourage more people to become more active more often in the city. There are 5 Sport and Recreation Officers, one in each of the Dublin City Council administrative areas. Their aim is to promote and increase sport and physical activity among all ages with a special focus on: Older adults, Under 10’s, New Immigrant Communities, and Women and girls, people with physical and mental disabilities.
The Sport and Recreation officers facilitate and run many programmes in their areas, below is just a sample list: Tai Chi, Chair Aerobics, Kiddercise, Self Defence, Bowls, Line Dancing, swimming lessons, Aqua Aerobics, Gaelic 4 Girls, Coisceim Dance project, Little Athletics, meet and train and much more.
The Sport and Recreation officers also deliver National programmes such as the Irish Sports Council Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children’s Sport, Buntus Start and Generic.

In 2009, the Dublin City Sports Network and the E.S.R.I came together to carry out research that would provide the Network with facts and figures around participation in sport in a Dublin context. You can view the document below or download a copy here (PDF):
This initial research carried out by the ESRI on behalf of the Dublin City Sports Network, is a first step in the process whereby the network, its members and any individual or body interested in physical activity or sport can begin to debate what the research means in terms of responding to ever changing needs and lifestyles.
