Ronnie Delaney, Irish Olympic Champion and Honorary Freeman of Dublin, is to give a lunch-time talk next Tuesday, 20th April from 1.10pm – 1.50pm at City Hall, Dame St, Dublin 2. The talk is entitled From Dublin to Melbourne and Home Again: My Olympic Journey. Ronnie won gold for Ireland in the Olympic 1500m in 1956, setting an Olympic record at the distance. Admission is free.

I know Ron personally myself and his achievement in 1956 was brilliant. Amazingly 1t was Michael Carruth who won our next Olympic gold 36 years later in 1992 and that was probably Ireland’s last proper Olympic gold medal. Sounds like an interesting event
I’m an acquaintance of Ronnie and like so many others I’m happy to watch this footage time and time again.
I believe we don’t praise our sporting heroes (past and present) enough.
